One day Papi was walking from the kitchen to the living room, which are about two steps away from each other. Not strange, right? But then something strange did happen. Something flew into Papi! And can you guess what it was? Un colibrÃ! AKA a hummingbird!
He fluttered onto the garbage bag. He was only a baby! That’s probably why he flew into Papi.
“He probably came from the nest on the roof,” said Papi.
We stepped toward him, and he got startled. He flew away, trying to get onto the second story.
Now, I have to tell you something about our house. There’s a courtyard in the middle, with the porch of the second floor above it. Underneath that is the pool.
“Oh, no!!”
The hummingbird hadn’t had enough momentum to get to the porch, so he had fallen - into the pool!
Papi ran to get a bag, and he fished the birdie out of the pool. Colibritito was cold, wet, and trembling. His feathers clung to his body, which made him look even smaller than he was. He was shaken.
Since we had seen hummingbirds outside our window, we put him on the windowsill. He started to dry off a little. After several minutes, a grown-up hummingbird came by the window, tweeting. His mommy! He faintly tweeted back, but she couldn’t hear him! She flew away.
After a while, she came back and he tweeted again.
“Mommy, help me please!”
“No. You have to learn to fly by yourself.”
And she flew off.
We decided to leave him alone for a while, and when we went back to check on him, that bird had flown.
(No animals were harmed in the making of this blog. At least we didn’t find Birdie on the ground outside our window.)

Wow, Sophia is a wonderful story teller! I was on the edge of my seat, waiting to hear what happened to the poor little baby hummingbird!
